i have a fully functional laptop and was wondering if i could use it as a monitor without downloading any kiind of software just the hardware
No.
Laptops don't have video INPUTS.
You could use built in remote software (Remote Desktop Connection - mstsc.exe) to remotely connect to the desktop. But that may need to be enabled because i'm pretty sure that's disabled by default.
