Recently, my laptop has started going to sleep without any battery warning when the battery is low, however from about a week ago, my laptop completely shuts down when the battery is low.
It may be an indication that your battery is failing, settings in your power plan have changed, or you need to calibrate the battery power level. What make/model laptop do you have?

HP Pavilon. Not sure what it is specifically, not too old. I got it about 2 years ago. I don't think I've changed any settings.
You might try calibrating the battery first, but if this fails, you will probably need to replace the battery soon.

If I was to replace, would I need to buy any random HP pavilion battery, or does it have to be a specific one? If a specific one, how do I find out which one?
The battery may be common to a number of different laptops, but you will have to Google your laptop model number or look for a tag on the battery itself for the model number of the battery. Try to get a genuine HP battery. Chinese knockoffs don't seem to last as long. They are available from Amazon, Ebay, and perhaps HP if it isn't very old.
