Question Laptop Battery Problems

Hello,

I purchased a new laptop battery for my Panasonic CF-29 Toughbook laptop. It's used for work and is running WinXP because the software on it isn't compatible with the newer versions of Windows.

I'm experiencing 3 different, but related battery problems:

1. The charge shows as 0% or 1%. However, the laptop lasted for over 3 hours on battery charge before dying (even though it said 0% the whole time). I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the battery from the Device Manager, but it doesn't make a difference.

2. I tried to calibrate the battery in the BIOS. After more than 24 hours, it had only progressed about 25%. After 36 hours, it was still at 25%. At this point, I stopped the calibration. Is it worth leaving it to calibrate for several days?

3. The battery will not boot up the laptop. It will keep the laptop powered once it boots up using the AC power cord, but cannot boot it up initially. The AC power cord is an aftermarket one. I doubt I could find an original for a laptop so old.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
