Hello, I recently upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10 64 bit and shortly after it was completed, everything was working fine until the screen suddenly went black. The computer was still running but I could not see anything on the screen to restart the computer so I closed the laptop so that it would shut off to sleep. Coincidentally a power outage happend lasting for about an hr after. When I am finally able to boot up the computer, it show the ASUS splash screen and the windows logo with the loading spin cycle but then shows a black screen after. My guess is that the OS may have been corrupted or something so that I plan on backing up my harddrive before going to a tech shop. I'm not sure what the issue is but it seems like I may have to reinstall the operating system. i have an ASUS N61J. I can't boot into bios or safe mode and can't get passed the black screen to log into my user account. Any ideas or solutions on what may have happened?

I have the same machine and am having exactly the same problem. I can connect the laptop to a screen via HDMI and all appears there to be working OK. On other sites there are many suggestions, none of which have worked for me so far. One is that it is linked to the power settings and I suspect that may be true because after a power outage here (blown fuse) I had both screens (laptop and external screen) working but the old problem returned after rebooting.

I have updated the graphics software (AMD/ATI) but it has not been the solution.

Let's both keep looking for a solution and share progress.

I actually fixed this problem by turning up the brightness. I guess for some reason the power or brightness levels got adjusted so that the laptop backlit screen is too dark, but if you turn up the brightness and settings for the laptop being plugged in or on battery to high brightness, the picture shows. Or change the performance settings to Entertainment or high. Let me know if that works for you. Other than that, my other issues with Windows 10 would be that I can't play some games as it crashes on me and some small quirks or lagging issues that might be fixed with future updates or patches.

I have found a solution and am happy! Too many hours wasted looking. Access to an independent screen via VGA or HDMI needed (includes TV screen).

Several sites warn that the ATI Radeon drivers after 13.4 will not work. I have found the 13.4 driver by googling and downloading via guru3d.com and uninstalled the recently upgraded driver (via the 13.4 install program) then installed the 13.4 package AND IT WORKS!

Now typing from the laptop screen.

Good luck to others in trouble - hope this info helps.
