Laptop burning smell, wont turn on

Hello,

I have a laptop (about 1 year old), just a few moments ago I plugged in an external CD drive. (USB connection) The laptop turned off and will not turn back on with a battery or AC power. There is a burning smell coming from my laptop now.

Is there anyway this can be fixed, also what has been burnt? (motherboard maybe)?

Please help if you can.
