Hi, my first post here, not sure if many will understand my problem, but here goes!

Basically, I have a wireless router in my house, but it doesn't quite reach my 3rd floor room.

To fix this, I have got a Belkin Surk wireless router, and set it up (to the best of my knowledge) as a second access point, connecting it to my original router with a long ethernet cable.

To "set up" the second access point, I accessed the settings through a web browser, and ticked a box "use as access point". After doing this, I selected an IP address outside of the range that my main router gives, so as to avoid conflicts (or so I read).

The problem is, I can't connect to the second access point from my laptop. I pick up the signal, full strength, but get the message in the bottom right of the screen, "windows can't connect" or whatever it is.

The strange part is my phone can connect to the second access point, connect to the internet through it etc, basically what I want from my laptop!

Any ideas?
