Hello all,

A while ago I decided to purchase an HP DV6 7015CA, it was serviced for blah blah. the wifi never had stellar performance, but I recently upgraded my router and I can definetly see it's faults. So I thought to myself, why not upgrade it to a better, newer, dual band Mini PCi expresse slot, http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833106190

Now looking around I fear that the motherboard might have a whitelist of Wi-Fi cards and may not even support dual band.

Will this be fully compatible with my system?

They may have a disclaimer in the manual but that is mostly to get past legal restrictions so they are not blamed if someone were to install a card say from another country that did not conform to local laws on transmission power.

Generally it is a standard bus connection so if it will fit it will work just like a desktop machine. You of course would have to load the drivers that comes with the new board. You would have to read all the fine print to see if they offer a dual band card for your laptop. It is not that it will not work it would be that the antenna were optimized for 2.4g rather than be designed for both 2.4g and 5g. They are pretty close so you would likely get good results even if they are not designed for both bands. This is one of those things where you need to find the antenna part numbers and see if they use them in other laptops that do support dual band. There might be dual band antenna that fit your laptop but they tend to be a pain to get to since they are behind the screen and there are no standards like the cards for if they will fit. At least you are lucky and the laptop has 2 antenna or you would not be able to use the full speed the card you want to use provides.

Well, I asked on the HP support forum and got an answer from an HP rep. He told me that my computer was indeed dual band supportive as he recommended two dual band cards(That were N however). However, knowing HP and discrepancy's in there products I'm somewhat worried.
