Laptop cd player

Hello,
i just format my laptop to windows 7.. but after that, my laptop cannot read any cd's or dvd's.. is there anything that i need to download first before playing dvd or cd?

There should be no software or drivers neccesary for an optical drive on your system.

Is the drive showing up under Computer in the start menu? What happens when a disc is put in?

Is it simply that you are having issues playing music or video off the disc, because WMP should be able to do that even from a fresh install.
