Hi I have a Samsung laptop that has a damaged charging port so it wont charge, and my battery is flat. My question is the charging port is soldered to the motherboard if I change it, is it possible that the laptop board has been damaged when the port was damaged, I just don't want to go through all the hassle of changing it if there is a possibility of it not working.
Many thanks.

I am not physically in front of your motherboard to look at it, and even then there can be damage that you cant physically see.

If the charger you were using when the laptops port originally stoped working was NOT the original samsung charger but a cheap replacement then it is very possible that the motherboard is already damaged.

Did someone trip or yank on the cord while it was plugged in? This can cause the port to break a contact with the motherboard, and at that point simply soldering in a new jack fixes the problem.

At this point all you can do is replace the charging jack and see.

The only way to know is try. However 90% of the time you have to replace the motherboard due to the design of the laptops motherboard.

Most laptops have the port soldered driectly to the motherboard (you did not list your model so cant verify it on yours).

How have you decided that the charging port is broken vs the charger itself being bad?

Generally this issue goes is for one of these reasons:
Power adapter is dead and not outputing a charge
Battery failed and computer wont power on
DC Jack (what youa re calling a charing port) got damaged and has to be removed from motherboard
Crappy replacement power adapter fried motherboard at charging port.
Motherboard went bad under normal circumstances

To test for bad power adapter, us a multimeter and test the inside and outside pin of the adapter
To test for bad battery, plug laptop into wall and remove battery and try to turn it on
TO test of other issues: You will need to diassemble the laptop, if you see dark damaged circuitry then your motherboard is damaged, otherwise try replacing the dc jack (may or may-not be soldired directly to board), if that still does not work then motherboard is bad and typically replacing board is far more costly then it is worth.

Hi bought a new charger still didn't work then looked inside the charging port and could see the pin and surround was damaged, ive already stripped the the laptop down so know it's soldered to the board the model is Samsung np305va

Thanks for the reply but do you think the mobo will be ok or is there a possibility of it being damaged or blown?
