Hopefully someone has an answer to this problem, thanks. I am visiting my son and we are having a problem getting the HP lap top to connect using wireless or wired at his house but we can take it next door to neighbor and as soon as we walk in the door it works. His desktop works fine hardwired at his house. The neighbor brought his modem and router over and they tried to get the laptop to connect wireless and wired, no go. the desktop is a home built system using Asus K8N-E and the laptop is a HP Pavilion. The internet service is Road runner with unknown modem name but model U10cd18. Any ideas?? Thanks

What kind of wireless router/AP are you using?
Are you detecting a signal at all?
Have you reset the Wireless Router/AP?

You can't get a wired connection? Can you explain your setup?

Cable/DSL, router, AP, etc?

We'll need more details to start figuring it out..

First check if it works hard wired from that "router", then if it does, play with configuration utility on router, then look if XP detects the signal at all from that router, if it does, then there is a configuration problem on either of things. Just play with it a little then tell what is going on.

..this is very useful and helpful place for information...

its simple,if your laptop can connect to your neighbors network then it means that the laptop wireless card is ok.you need to check your router if its configured properly for internet connection.and when hardwiring the laptop into the router and still no internet, then check the network connection if the lan card is enabled or not?
