Thats the wrong side of the board. I see where the CPU goes, but its on the other side.

Very strange. Whats the make and model of the laptop?

CPU's the thing covered in thermal paste.

Can't tell what it is from here, but clean up the paste and Google any numbers you find on there. They stopped clearly marking laptop CPUs after the 1st or 2nd generation (eg i7-640m), but can't remember which.
