Laptop damaged due to wine spill

I SPILT WINE ON MY LAPTOP NOW IT WON'T WORK. hOW CAN I COPY MY FILES FROM MY HARD DRIVE? I have a caddy but it isn't showing up on my other computer.

You can open your laptop up and take the hard drive out. It's very simple just google it and watch YouTube it will help. Once you do that hook the hard drive up to another computer and move files to the destination needed. Also I have had experience with water on devices, after experience I have learned a fridge can help get rid of the water in the device. Hope this helps

Let the laptop dry out. You may be lucky, and have no damage. Otherwise, you may be able to transfer the drive to another laptop and use normal copy or backup functions.

Vonnie is there a version of windows (assuming you have windows) on both hdds? If so your gunna have to boot off one of the hard drives you want. Also if the pc was on when you plugged it up (dangerous/don't do) you will have to shut it down and reboot to recognize it agian.

Hi Terry, the laptop is dried out and not working. I have removed the hard drive and put it in a caddy to copy files to another computer but the computer is not recognising the hard drive. Any ideas?

Im afraid that because the HDD of Laptops and HDD of Desktops are different type. You need some kind of uh.. gosh i forget the name.

But there are some tools that use USB, so basically you connect this to computer thru USB, and you just plug the Laptop Hardisk on it. then it should be useable.

I have window on my other computer yes, and on the hard drive that I have removed. My spare computer isn't picking up my other hard drive though.

If you want anything on a flash drive just boot up off the laptop hdd, if you want to move them to another hdd or just use both on the same pc your gunna need to go to the bios and select which hdd to boot off of first (del key or f2 key before windows start up to get to bios) can you please tell us what kind of computer you have? Ps: once you boot up off the other hdd you should be able to access the second computer files, they may be under windows os files on the hdd but you can move them to the other hdd also.

What I mean by booting off one copy of windows is this : you have 2 hard drives in your pc with windows, one hard drive will be dominant and boot up while the other enters Slave mode and is accessible.

PS how can a fridge help? surely it will just add moisture to an already delicate system....

Hi, they are both lap tops, well the spare is actually a net book. I have a caddy for the hard rive and plugged it in via USB but net book isn't seeng it...

Ahhh thanks for explaining your plugging it into a USB port, I thought you had it plugged it into a desktop. If the hdd doesn't pop up at all that means that it is either not recieving power or the cord some where is messed up or the hdd is messed up.
