The laptop was a lenovo g550, and I know the password to get into it, but I can't access any menu on any machine to be able to type it in. Would I be able to access a BIOS setting to enter in the password, or is there a Windows utility I can use to unlock it?

Solution
Hi

The laptop hard drive password is stored on the hard drive not the CMOS or EPROMs on motherboard

If you can find another laptop which supports hard drive passwords
You maybe able to enter existing password then set password to null eg remove password

Data recovery specialists may be able to help you

Definitely a step in the right direction, I get prompted for the password, but it gets rejected. Do different laptops use different algorithms for the password?
