Laptop disabling wifi

Hey, so this seems like an unusual problem:

Starting 2 days ago, when my laptop connected to the wireless router, the router dropped internet connectivity. It only happens when my laptop connects wirelessly, and end immediately after I disable wifi or attach an ethernet cable. While my laptop is not connected, internet access is fine through other devices connected to the network. Finally, my roommate tells me that when my laptop is connected to the wifi, another wireless network becomes available called "Asus_guest"

I'm using a pre-built ASUS laptop with a Intel Core i7-2670QM processor
Running Windows 10 home version 1511
My wireless network manager is an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 6150 (w/updated drivers)

The wireless router is a Linsys WRT160N Wireless N
The Modem is a U10CO18

There are 2 other laptops and 3 smartphones connected to the network, as well as a printer.
The ISP is Time-Warner

I've updated every driver that I can think of, but would be fine with doing it again if anyone thinks something is particular is the issue. I have already set my network manager to not turn off to save power, and have set up a manual wireless reset. I'm not a tech specialist, but I've been looking through forums trying to figure out what's wrong.

This has got me stumped, and I would be very grateful for help.

I would test it on another network, Starbucks, McDonalds, etc. to determining if it is functioning properly and the problem is with actually your network interacting with the laptop -- the idea is to eliminate that issue from the troubleshooting.

Does the laptop work normally on other networks outside your home?

If so, I would start by going to the network control panel of the problem laptop, select manage wireless networks, and delete all networks that are associated with the local area. Then reboot and manually select the network that you want to use and reenter its security key. You can click on the connect automatically box if you will always connect to that wireless in that location.

And I will assume that you did not create a virtual wifi hotspot on the problem laptop with software or using the command prompt like THIS.

Thanks for replying.

I have not tried it on other networks, so I don't know if it works on other networks yet. I went ahead and tried your solution anyway, and now my the router drops connection with my laptop a second after it makes connection. I hope that indicates progress.

You are correct, I did not try to make a virtual hotspot, at the very least not knowingly.
