laptop does not recognize headphones or any aux cable when plugged into 3.5

hi there, i have a problem with the headphones 3.5 port in my laptop (windows 10).
every time i puy in the headphones it asks me what i just plugged in, headphones or speaker. one time i set it to speaker while putting in my headphones, and accidently pressed the "never ask me again" button. and now the computer doesnt recognize that i plugged anything in. so the port doesnt even work now. please help
