Laptop doesn\'t recognise external hard drive

my external hard drive worked fine while I was running my karaoke/dj business, then it just quit. It will not show up on my laptop at all! Any ideas on what I could do?? How can I get all my music onto a new one?

Did your external hard drive suffer any bumps or drops? Especially any while it was plugged in?

Do you hear any clicking after you plug it in?
