Laptop fps stuck at 60

I have dell inspiron 7567 8 gb ram and geforce gtx 1050ti. Before i used to play games at 120-140 fps. But now the fps is stuck at 60 fps no matter the resolution. However, when i connect my laptop to external monitor using hdmi cable, the fps increases to 120-140 fps. I have turned vysnc off in my ingame settings as well as in nvidia control panel. Does it have something to do with the geforce experience?

Uhm yes that happens because your Laptops Monitor/screen is probably at 60hz and because the Monitor on the laptop can't go any higher you are stuck at 60FPS.
