Laptop freezes (Toshiba)

After I signed in, laptop went to desktop...cursor was on an old program that was no longer available and somehow uploaded the program...message was program could not load...unavailable. Now, laptop is froze on this page...I keep shutting down and starting all over again by logging on and it goes to this page automatically. I also cannot get my cursor to show anywhere to 'x' out of this unavailable program...how do I get this unfrozen so I can get back to my desktop? Thanks for any and all help.

Hold down shift when you click shutdown
Win8 & 10 dont shutdown, they hybrid sleep instead. Shift + shutdown gets you a true shutdown.
