Question Laptop GPU disconnecting?

Hello, Ive had this laptop a Omen 3080ti, 32gb ram, I9-12900h for about a year and its been nothing but trouble. When i first purchased the laptop it would constantly switch between the onboard graphics and the 3080ti while in a game. I found a post that recommended to disable the onboard gpu, cannot honestly remember how i did that, and it seemed to work fine since. Little side note the audio would also go from being loud what I would expect from a laptop to very quiet while it switched.

I downloaded expedition 33, and the game kept crashing with a fatal error. Assumed it was just a new game it would be fixed, seen a bunch of posts about others with the same issue.

Updated the graphic drivers hoping that was the issue, and nothing. There was also just a windows update. I then noticed the fans on the laptop which have always been quiet are ramping up louder then they have ever been which was strange. This laptop has always run very hot 200F is common to see but normally a bit lower. After a few dozen attempts to play the game and it crashing I gave up went to another game and it told me i must have a graphic card installed? I seen games were then using my onboard gpu instead of the 3080. I then tried to go into the nvidia control panel and it said, You are currently not using a display attached to a nvidia gpu. After restarting the laptop it recognized the 3080ti again. After noticing this I wanted to see if it would do it again and it is repeatable if the game crashes it wont recognize the 3080.

Now less intense games will run as they should with no issues, but on higher spec games im noticing that the laptop is again switching between the onboard and the 3080 causing games like PoE2 to go from 140 frames to sub 10 every 3 to 5 seconds. The laptop does still recognize the 3080 while the games are running, only had that issue after expedition 33 crashes.

After these issues i took the bottom panel off and cleaned out the fans, which were bad.

If you have any suggestions please make it easy for me to follow! thanks

Hey man, not an expert but i thought id throw my two cents.
Maybe the constant overheating degraded the gpu
Have you done repasting too?
Try undervolting the cpu and gpu

I should note I did take it to a local shop and he replaced the connection point for the cable to the laptop. It was a bigger job then i wanted to try. He did repaste as he had to take out the heat sink. I also thought it might be because of over heating but i did have the gpu switching between onboard and the 3080 out of the box new. Should of just sent it back then 🙁

Ok thats some useful info.
Yep, probably should've returned it.
Honestly Im not an laptop expert but to me it sounds like the gpu is defective, don't take my word for it.

You should try to undervolt and underclock a bit! Theres a lot of tutorials online and I think its worth the time to try it! It could be useful, maybe the factory clocks were just pushing over the edge of what that particular silicone could do?

Wish you all luck to fix it or at least find someone that can provide accurate diagnose
