Laptop Gpu issues

i recently bought an alienware 13 R1 with the touch 1440p screen.got it for quiet a bargain and works well.only issue is the dedicated gpu which is gtx 860m.it refuse to work while on battery power and needs to be plugged in,then restart in order to get it to work.its detected in bios and device manager.however in gpuz the gpu is shown but with no clock speed,bandwidth,etc,also in dxdiag the feature level under the render tab is empty.so basically its only works normally if i plugged in the power and restart the laptop.i tried reinstalling both the intel and nvidia gpu with drivers from dell as well as nvidia to no avail.bios is updated as well.only thing i haven't tried is clean install which is my last solution.so any help or input will be highly appreciated.Thanks.

Try updating your power plan in power & sleep settings to high performance

It could be a design concern. It may very well be that the gpu needs the additional power to run properly. Have you contacted the manufacturer?

nope haven't done that yet.planning to contact them tomorrow.funny as my past alienware notebook doesnt have this issue.
