Laptop GPU Question

I just recently connected my inspiron 8600 laptop to my HDTV in order to watch movies but noticed that the playback is very choppy. The laptop is a few years old, and has an intel Pentium-M Dothan 2 GHz CPU with an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo graphics card. Since my HDTV doesn't have an S-video input it's connected via the PC input.

Do you think the GPU just can't handle playing movies full screen on an HDTV?

is there someway to disable the monitor on the laptop while using your hdtv?

it would squeeze more performance out. dual monitors setups are much harder on videocards.

im talking out my a$$ tho. just a thought.
