So I am looking at purchasing a used Gaming Laptop to replace my current laptop. Not looking to spend over $500. And I've seen some good laptops but know nothing about laptop GPU's

Is there anyone who could tell me what to look for. So far I've seen a few ASUS ROG's with GPU starting with GTX 4xx to GTX 8xx. going for $500. I'm just looking to run fighting games, City Simulators like Cities Skyline and Fallout 3 (MGS V, FALLOUT 4 if possible)

Any help appreciated

Thanks in advance

You are going to have to provide specific GPU model numbers since that is the only why to determine which mobile GPUs you are referring to. All those GPUs will support DX11, but generally speaking, newer generation GPUs will provide better performance than older generation GPUs... depending on the model number.

A nVidia GTX 480m (pretty high end when it was new) is only a little more powerful than the current nVidia 940m.
Well, you generally want to go with a more recent GPU so that would be the nVidia 8xx series. The question is... exactly which GPU model you are referring to....

The 840m and below are considered mainstream mobile GPUs. But to play games I would not consider anything below the 840m. The 860m and above are considered "gaming GPUs"; the higher the model #, the better the performance. The 850m is somewhere in between... some consider it to be mainstream while others consider it to be an "entry level gaming GPU".

The 840m should be able to handle Fallout 4 at 1366x768 resolution and medium graphic settings providing decent performance. Not sure about MGS V since I do not play that game.

Would anything below that like 4xx -7xx be able to handle last gen games? You know like tomb raider and fallout 3 and games like Cities Skyline? If anything I just like to have the option to play those. I travel sometimes and it's just great to have some quality games to play. Other than using a handheld lol
