So I have this quite old laptop, it had some strange behavior for some time now, but I did not care too much cuz I use it only for work and the problems were not too bothering. The laptop is HP Pavilion dv6, and, as it does not work now, I cant tell the exact model. The problems that I dealt with were that on startup I did not see the Windows loading screen, but just blinking light untill it loaded user choosing. However if I reloaded computer, not turning on and off, it was allright. And the other type of problem is that it showed me black screen and did not load anything sometimes when I just closed the laptop and move it around. In that cases I hard-rebooted it and it was ok. So today the black-screen problem apperad and I did everything as allways just this time I forgot to plug in charge and after logging in my user, screen became blinking. I connected the charger and restarted it again but it showed me grey-ish screen like laptops show when videocards are broken. So I did not know what to do, tried plugging charge off and turning it on, it was blinkig a bit but then it was grey as it have been before, just a bit more dull. It ia worth mationing that I belive my laptop has 2 videcards and when I unplugged the charger, it offerd me wheather I want to switch videocards, and if I chose "change", it was blinking. And I belived the problem with everything that was before is that it booted with a weaker card which may have been broken or something, that has some logic in it. So yeah,I have a monitor with which I might acces Bios if there is some hope lef. Shall I change the videocard or there is still some way to do something?

Hi,

Start by doing a clean install of the graphics card driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the graphics card driver (AMD or NVIDIA)
- Open Programs and Features and uninstall anything related to your graphics card.
- Download and install the latest driver there is from the graphics card manufacturer site.
- Once installed do reboot your laptop.
- After the reboot open the Control Panel of your graphics card. Look for Power Management and make sure to set it to Maximum performance.
- Also do connect an external monitor and see if you'll have the same problem with the external display.
