Laptop Hard Drive in Desktop

If my laptop hard drive has Windows 8 and all my games files on it can I put it in my desktop and use it instead of buying a new Hard Drive?

And if it is an OEM install on the laptop (probable), then it really won't work.

Try it. See what happens. The worst that can happen is it doesn't work.

However....now you have an otherwise functioning laptop with no drive and/or no OS. IOW, a paperweight.

If it doesn't work couldn't I replace it into my computer?
