I was using my laptop earlier when it crashed. I booted it back up and the hard drive made weird beep sounding fan noise and it sounds like the hard drive is singing. It does this during the time when it shows the Toshiba logo and stops when the logo goes away. After the logo goes away the screen just goes black. It makes normal sounding noises after the logo goes away as well. I have a Toshiba Satellite C675 and a WD black 500 gb hard drive. When I open my boot menu it says in the hard drive slot HDD/SSD: PATA: but nothing else. It also never used to say PATA in the boot menu. If someone could tell me what is wrong with my laptop that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Hey there, cdenny619.

Sorry to hear about the issues you're having with your drive. Did you have any problems with the drive before that happened? Do you need to recover data from it?
If the HDD has been making that kind of noises, it really sounds like it might not be in a very good condition. If your laptop is out of warranty, I'd recommend that you take the drive out of it and test it with a another computer - either externally (via a SATA to USB cable, external enclosure, or a docking station), or internally (via a SATA connection), to see if the same thing happens.
If you don't want to recover any data from it, I'd recommend that you download DLG (Data Lifeguard Diagnostics) and run both tests (Quick and Extended) to see if there's anything wrong with it. Here's how to do that: How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
