My laptop will run CSGO at 200-300 fps, however, the monitor screen says it is 60 Hz. This makes no sense.

My understanding is FPS and Hz are equal. So 60 hz = 60 fps

Thanks for any clarification.

Solution
the screen hz is the fps it can show. thats the hardware specification. the in games fps that u r talking abt CS GO is the output of ur laptop that is possible with that game. the in game fps varies from scenario to scenario in different games.
in ur case of CS GO, some frames r skipped in those 200-300 output fps to give u a 60fps output to ur screen. the frame drop depends on what kind of adaptive sync u r using. it can be v sync with or without triple buffering etc, etc.

read more abt v sync, free sync, g sync if u want a clear picture of how the frames r displayed to ur sceen :)

Your monitor has Hertz or Hz, its the refresh rate of the monitor. Basically, 144 hz monitors run more smooth compared to 60 hz monitors, less tearing, and looks a lot faster imo. I recently got a 144 hz monitor and its pretty nice. I'd recommend looking into buying one. You run CS:GO at high FPS, but you can only see 60 FPS. When it comes to things like this people like to say that the human eye can't see past 60, but infact we can. Thats why the military trains your eyes to handle high FPS for pilots.

THe only reason I ask is because I just completed a new desktop and what to know everything about my current system to compare it to other hardware. I have a GTX 1060 6gb. I also have a hp Pavilion 22cwa that, during Battlefield 1 (csgo will only run on my native laptop monitor), will cap at 60 fps in game. Can you clarify that for me? I know my system can, at least, get above 60 fps (even by just a few frames and that's on the second monitor).

EDIT: I plan on buying a second monitor to use as a primary (hope that clarifies things)

Thanks!

You probably have vSync on, if so turn it off. And some games do FPS monitor based so you gotta change that as well if its a thing.

yes, most games have in game fps cap. and like i said, if ur monitor is 60hz, only 60fps can be displayed. the other frames r dropped. be it ur laptop or desktop with the 1060 6gb, if ur screen is a 60hz one, u will be capped at 60fps irrespective of ur ingame fps. if u want more, u should upgrade to a 144hz monitor.

the fps cap is to provide smoother gameplay since high fps in a very low hz screen will cause screen tearing. the same goes for low fps which may cause stuttering or lag.

where do i go to disable vsync though is it in the monitor options that are accessed from the buttons,or a program on the disk they sent with the monitor?

Hehe, nevermind, I found it
