Hi,

I am my laptop HDD that I am using on my PC (Win 8.1 Pro), by connecting it externally, using a external casing. It was working fine until a few days back, when suddenly, it decides to die.

When I plug in the HDD to my PC, it slows my computer down LIKE CRAZY.. I need to unplug it for the computer to get back to normal. I tried connecting it on a Mac too, but it won't read there. Not yet tried on a Linux, but I am sure, it won't show up there either.

Can someone suggest me something to try? Just an FYI: I have tried almost everything that the site offers, and other sites, but to no avail.

There are some really important files that i need to get a hold of. Please, help me!

Thanks in advance..

if the hard drive is making a clicking sound, do not power it on again or you risk losing all of your data. the only thing left to do in this case is to send it to a professional data recovery centre.

if there is not clicking, then it is possible that there is a problem with the external sata to usb interface.

try plugging the hard drive directly onto the motherboard with a sata cable.

if it runs ok, you want to do a thorough chkdisk first, making sure to scan for bad sectors. then plug it into the external enclosure and test to determine where the problem lies.
