Laptop HDD in desktop, can view but not access files (SOLVED)

Trying to access 2x SATA HDDs from my old laptops. I plugged them in to my desktop, and everything turns on and runs. I can see them in BIOS, disk management says they are healthy drives, and I can access the programs on them. Once I try to access the documents/pics/etc under "Users" it denies me. Clicking the "Continue" button just sets in a forever loading screen.

I also tried to boot from the HDDs, but those boots failed (I'm assuming it's the difference in PC/laptop architecture). Is this even possible? If it was, I could just copy the files onto a flash drive and later onto my desktop.

Thank you for any assistance you can offer.
