Hi guys,
I am doing some scientific computing/ finite element sim with C++/openMP , and I have a desktop PC with Core2 Q9550, which I bought two years ago.
Now sandy bridge CPUs are available, and from the benchmarks it looks like i7 2600K is 80%~100% faster than Core2 Q9550 on multi-threading apps.
I am considering to get a laptop with i7 2630QM(then I can work in the classroom), but I didn't find any benchmark articles about the laptop CPU vs desktop CPU.
And if a laptop with i7 2630QM is still slower than Q9550, I would rather save the money for another desktop PC.
Any guy has made a comparison like this?
