I have a Dell laptop ( i will give exact model number if needed ) and when i boot it up it will beep forever, i will let it sit there and it will beep until the battery dies. I tried booting without a hard drive and with out RAM i also tried booting with just 1 ram stick but nothing worked, every once in a while i can get it to boot but its very rare.

If you could send me a model number so I can find some documents for diagnosing the beep it sounds like a possible cpu power error but I cannot be sure. Do any of the power/battery/drive activity lights come on when you switch it on if so which ones?

The status lights come on but the hard drive indicator doesnt come on only the power indicator the laptop is a Dell Inspiron 15r-5521 there is a service number tell me if you need that if it helps its running windows 8

i dought that, its a newer computer ( 2012 )

Yep, it just gives infinite beeps till you turn it off, mine boots sometimes too, but the GPU has heated and cooled so much that it has finally worked it's solder points free of the mainboard. There are some jimmy rig fixes that you can do that involve heating the board, but I don't recommend any of them.

is there anyway i can check to make sure that that happened?

the solution to 1 beep is "replace the mother board" i cant replace the motherboard on a laptop

If it is one beep then pause then beep etc it is a motherboard error. If it plays a sequence of timed beeps it is something else. It would be possible to get the motherboard replaced by dell but I'm assuming your warranty is up so it could be pricey.

i have another laptop that im using now but its way slower so i wanted to try to get the inspiron working

i could but i dont know if I COULD fit a new motherboard i would have to get someone to do it.. i know how too but i only have knowledge no expeirence

There are generic "sorta fixes" on youtube that involve you heating up the motherboard in your oven. It's not something I recommend strongly. However; given the fact that the board is dead already I don't see what you have to lose by looking into it. A motherboard is the best fix and amazon and ebay are your best bets for finding an affordable replacement. Laptop repair is one of our most common repairs here at the shop, be it a bad hard drive or failing motherboard. In most instances of a failing motherboard, unless the laptop/Macbook is a really high end unit, then the repair is cost prohibitive and most usually decide to purchase a new laptop.

Edit: I found this on ebay. The trick is making sure you get an exact replacement. As you can tell replacing your motherboard is not an easy or cheap fix.
