Hello everyone 👋

I've got an ASUS X55V laptop. it initially came with Windows 8, at some point the keyboard and trackpad just stopped working.

Although, the keyboard works in BIOS and pre-os state.
The BIOS is legacy so no way to check trackpad but I was able to enter into BIOS by tapping f2 of laptop's keyboard and further navigate there, change some settings, etc.

I've deleted windows 8 and clean installed windows 10, after windows done it's job I've additionally installed all remaining drivers with IOBIT driver booster, still nothing.

I've also restored BIOS to factory state but that didn't help either.
I've disassembled and checked mobo and all connections, everything seems as usual, no signs of mechanical damage anywhere.

What could be the issue ??

try the drivers from here:
ATK, Touchpad and inf drivers
I've tried that before, tried again now, but still nothing ;/ I believe drivers are properly installed but what else could possibly cause such behavior ? could it be some resistance difference ? e.g. some minor controller is faulty and causes keyboard n trackpad to not function while CPU is under OS idle load ?

Does Windows Update attempt to install any optional drivers for the trackpad, etc.? You will have to click for it to show optional updates.
Just checked optional drivers tab, In fact there was a driver for a mouse with a naming just a "Mouse" installed it, restarted and still nothing... I am thinking maybe the trackpad is blocked by keyboard ? (there's a corresponding function key there, on fn+f9) but since I cannot use keyboard maybe that's why the trackpad doesn't work either ?

I never met a computer or notebook to act up like this because of drivers, at least some generic drivers were working, or on old HP laptops the trackpad scroll wasn't working but the mouse was.

I remember there was a bootable software for testing keyboards and mice, something similar to memtest86, but can't remember the name, are you aware of any soft that can check keyboard and trackpad functionality out of OS ?

Not unless it was part of the hardware diagnostics from the manufacturer possibly. The issue here is you're jumping a generation gap in that you are running Windows 10 instead of 8 which typically wouldn't be a cause for concern as Windows has adequate drivers.

Depending on the laptop, usually FN+F9 is there to disable the trackpad itself if you're using an external mouse so you don't encounter cursor drift or unnecessary clicks.
