laptop keys are mixed up

hello, i have Dell inspiron 17 and im typing with my touch screen keyboard right now . i don't know what happened but many keys are now mixed up. here are the ones with problems ;

L= mute (F1 is the mute button but now it puts my laptop to sleep)
F2 is to lower the volume but now left ctrl also lowers volume
F3 should increase volume but now it is like right click of mouse
letter O does not work
F11 should lower brightness but now shows the question mark( ? )
when i press 6 it shows the + instead of 6

i did a system restore to few days back but that didnt help
my keyboard is already set to english US. windows 8.1

What operating system do you have ? I recently had a customer coming in with a similar problem... She had Windows 8... I upgraded it to Windows 10 and astonishingly the problem was solved. So that told me it was some driver problems and nothing was wrong with the keyboard itself.

i have w8.1 i tried to install w10 last month but didn't work . this happened yesterday and i wasn't installing new drivers or anything. out of nowhere it just happened

I understand... With that Win 8.1, is it genuine ? And you don't have to be installing or uninstalling any driver for this to happen.

yes it is genuine .. im not sure but maybe the problem started after i unplugged the laptop from my tv , then i put it in sleep mode and after i turned it back on again, instead of booting to homescreen from sleep mode, it restarted and that's when i noticed the problem

ENSURE Num lock is off on the keyboard

already tried that. on and off ,

I went on Dell website ( my laptop is Dell) and found some updates ( one was something about BIOS) and now the keyboard works fine again.
