I posted this a few days ago and haven’t received ay replies.

I have an ACER Aspire M5-583P-6428 operating Windows 10 Home (x64) Version 1803 (build 17134.590). The task manager shows 4GB RAM and the control panel also shows Installed memory of 4GB. Researching inform me that the laptop has two slots, one not visible and the other visible. The visible slot has a 4GB RAM that came with the computer. A friend of mine has the exact same computer and his task manager and control panel show 8GB and when I run Belarc Advisor on his computer it shows "Slot Dimm0 has 4096 MB" and "Slot Dimm1 has 4096 MB. My plan was to replace my visible slot with 8GB RAM to total 12GB total. I've ran Belarc Advisor three ways on my laptop: 1) with the 4GB provided in the slot, 2) with the new 8GB in the slot, and 3) nothing in the slot. All three ways still result in "Slot Dimm0 has 4096 MB" and "Slot Dimm1 is empty". It appears my Slot Dimm1 is not recognizing the RAM. I've reinserted it a number of time and cleaned the contacts, but nothing. Plus remember I also tried a brand new 8GB RAM. Is there anything else I can check/do to get this slot to recognize the RAM? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for replying. I didn’t mean to be vague. The original 4GB RAM that is visible and came with the computer is labeled:
Kingston
4GB 2Rx8 PC3L-12800S-11-11-F3
and the new 8GB RAM recently purchased is labeled:
Patriot
PSD38G1600L2S
PS001037
8GB PC3-12800 (1600 MHZ)
DDR3 SODIUM 1.35V
RoHs Compliant
Bar code: PS1037-078555

Please let me know what other information would be helpful and again thanks for your reply.

Calvin7, I added more information about what I’m using, but maybe you meant for me to provide something else. Thanks in advance to anyone with thoughts on my problem.
