Laptop memory upgrade?

I've purchased a new laptop. The MSI GP72MVR 7RFX-Leopard-Pro. i7-7700HQ 1060 3GB 8 Gb of 2400mhz RAM 256GB SSD 1TB HDD.

I'd like to upgrade my ram to 16GB of ram, while i don't want to just pull the one that's inside of the laptop out and not use it i'd like to upgrade it. It's got a 8GB DDR4 (2400 MHz) memory stick, there is no other information about the ram other than that. Will i be able to put an 8GB stick of DDR4 memory with 2400 MHz speed into another slot? Will that be compatible and will it work?

have you removed the 8gb stick in you laptop to see if it had brand/part number stickers on it?

If there are no stickers on it, it may be a good idea to contact MSI and ask them about the specifications/compatibility.

honestly you are probably fine with any ddr4 2400mhz ram, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious.

Yes, you can install a 4GB or 8GB or 16GB stick. Max is 2x16GB

Supported memory is DDR4 2400MHz Single Rank or Dual Rank So-DIMM

Choose good brands like Samsung, Micron or Kingston type
