News Laptop Mining Farms Are the Latest Craze, Here’s the Math

But, at the present rate, it would still take 220 days to break even.
They don't actually have to break even though. Most likely, these laptops will be repackaged and sold as "new" once the crypto market collapses. >_>

Although from other side... give away those laptops to miners. Let they left desktop GPUs for us : P
You don't think they will buy both? They're only resorting to laptops because graphics cards are in such limited supply now.

Going further with this in my head to a ridiculous extreme is leading to pictures of massive cryptomining farms comprised of thousands of smartphones.

If your going to steal eleccy may as well grow dope instead of mining coins.

This laptop mining news just makes me hate every company in the supply chain enabling miners (and scalpers). Nvidia, AMD, AIBs, vendors, and so on.

I'm rather surprised large gaming companies haven't gotten more vocal about the situation. The lack of GPUs (and the new consoles) has got to be impacting sales of games and related accessories. I know I've been holding off on some games due to not having a new GPU, and I shifted a couple purchases from PC over to console.

I need to buy a bunch of home appliances soon. Normally I would consider Best Buy, but not being able to secure a new GPU from them either makes me want to go elsewhere for appliances.

Do you have a 100% foolproof solution that is both convenient for people who were going to buy the hardware for its intended use then and puts a kebosh on scalpers? Because until then, bots and scalpers will find ways around systems put in place. The only real solution in the mean time is to ramp up production so enough supply is out there to render the cards effectively "worthless" for scalpers. Well, maybe not the "only" solution, because I thought about one that's extremely invasive and nobody would really go for it.

And even if we get rid of the scalpers, there's the crypto miners. Which any attempt to block miners on the software side of things will be met with failure.

That could get you the death penalty in China. Though I'm not sure what the punishment for stealing electricity might be like. I'm assuming one might be able to pay off the bill for some amount of leniency with that though. The estimated 33,000 kWh of electricity used for that small mining operation would have only amounted to the equivalent of a few thousand dollars or so.

It should be simple enough as any with 2-cell brain should understood. If one is caught on electricity theft related to cryptocurrency mining then all devices he have musty be confiscated and crypto-something - transferred into treasury, federal budget or what they have. Alternative is death penalty. The choice is yours 🆒

It's the cooling that some of us gamers are interested in here for 90-watt GPUs on laptops if we do travel cross country or across the state using a 300-watt power inverter car charger for the laptop in question after upgrading it to full spec on the RAM and SSD storage using 8TB corsair SSD for storing games on along with using external USB peripherals like gaming mice and wireless sony headsets as the laptop can charge them using the wire from the headphone jack in certain setups if they are designed for that as the more external USB and audio devices you have plugged into the laptop the more power it will draw from a wall socket or in this case a bestek 300-wall car charger for the RTX 3060 MSI gf 75 as to me less wattage is better for use with USB devices plugged into all the laptops ports and fully spec out the upgraded internal ram to 64GB DDR4 2933MHz speeds and SSD slots populated at 8tb on the m.2 slots is a good means test for power draw for such gaming laptop designs going foward here as miners wont use them until the software improves for such mining of etherium at full MH/s rates the desktop counterpart gpus already do for an insane asking price right now on amazon if in the future nvidia decides to upgrade the onboard VRAM on such mobile GPUs in the budget and mid range spec here in 2022 RTX 4000 series models for gaming laptops at 1440p and 4k at 120hz here and the amd and intel cpus are still powerhogs vs the apple m1 on the 13 inch macbook for power draw needs from a besttek car charger power inverter for using ass laptop on the road in a car if your traveling by car on vacation or for business travel if your a trucker using an HP Z-Book or Dell workstation laptop that fedex and UPS the US post office and moving companies use.

Also the more USB devices you have plugged into your laptop the more power it will demand from your laptop supplied power brick it will come with here as this is why I was slow playing my decision as car chargers for gaming laptops need a certain amount of amps and wattage to run safely with a fully upgraded gaming laptop internally and ALL USB-A and USB-C I/O ports along with audio ports used with external devices plugged into the gaming laptop in question for gaming and workstation needs on the road for offline needs as gaming laptops right now do not have AMD or intel built 5g or 6g modems for internet access while the car is in motion on the interstate here like your smartphone can do in and out of airplane mode on smartphones and laptops for the battery when you're not plugged into the car charger with the laptop using it to see if the device will explode or not like the Samsung and iPhones once did with overloading the li-ion batteries on them being so small like the MSI thin gf 75 also has an apple m1 MacBook 13 inch laptop as my old hp omen 17 from 2017 and 2020 could not handle having all usb-A and TB3 ports in use with its 300-watt power brick making me think it needs a 600-watt power brick after fully up;grading both old laptops seeing the power needs for the ram ssds and hdd cpu and gpu with added external devices without a powerbrick for them only having a USB-A connector like my samsung T-500 and WD EasyStore external HDD and SSD and a rx 5700 sonnet EGPU for those wanting to use that as well on the go being a small from factor EGPU for older macbooks and windows laptop with windows 10 20H2 os updates on them.
