My laptop screen has been on the fritz.
Specs: HP dv9700 4gb RAM NVidia 8600m GS Intel Duo 2.2Ghz
My toddler decided it was a good idea to use it as a springboard to jump off of and since then the monitor has been behaving erratically. It's hard for me to diagnose the problem because it behaves differently all of the time.

Here's what could happen on startup:
- Everything works fine
- Backlight turns on but no image
- Backlight doesn't turn on
- System repair starts up, and the then screen goes black after completion

What fixes the problem..sometimes:
- A good smack to the screen
- Hard Resetting
- Taking the battery and power out and cycling the power
- Closing the lid and reopening
- Doing absolutely nothing and it works an hour later.

It could just be the screen is dying, by the looks of your specs its a pretty old system. So thats common for laptops to do so.

The screen still works just fine when it powers on, it has to be something more than just "dying." The problem is that it dies half the time.

Try to replace the battery, that could be the issue.

Do you think this would be the problem even if the laptop is still plugged in?
