Laptop motherboard/cpu to desktop

So I have a laptop that has a Intel i5(don't know specific model) and I'd like to have it in my desktop, which currently has an AMD athlon 860K with a GTX 960 in it, although the CPU doesn't quite meet my needs for running the games I'm wanting to play, would it be possible for me to just take the motherboard and CPU out of my laptop and put it in my desktop and it still work fine?

Laptop parts are not standardized like desktop parts are.
