I have a laptop with a dead lcd panel
and would like to drive an external monitor
off of the motherboard video connector.
How can this be done?
Is there an off the shelf solution?
Perhaps there is something that simply adapts
the motherboard connector to DVI or HDMI?
I do not expect to power the external monitor
from the motherboard. External monitors
already have their own power supply. I
would simply like to have a cable or adapter
that connects from the motherboard video
header to an HDMI or DVI input on the monitor
that results in a workable display.
I wish I knew more about the standards for
laptop motherboard video connectors, as
then it would be likely I could search the
correct terms and find the answer I am
looking for without having to ask. As such
I have searched quite a bit and not been
able to find an answer to what I ask. Thus
I ask here.
Thanks in advance for your non off topic
advice and insights.
