Laptop needs new harddrive. Are they easy to replace?

My hp laptop I discovered has a problem witha it's hd. I want to try and replace it my self but not sure how or if I should. Any suggestion I'm grateful for.

You can replace it easily, just check what size it is, there are a few laptop drive standards for height and size.
Your system probably has a utility to make a recovery disk, make one and you will be able to re-install Windows on the new drive.
Swap out the disk, boot from the disk you made and follow the instructions to install Windows.
