laptop no backlight

I've got an Asus X550DP and yesterday I was using the laptop until after about 10 minutes of Splinter Cell Conviction, the laptop hung, repeated whatever noise was going on for a few seconds, then shut off. I tried booting it yesterday and today, but no luck. I remember updating the bios two or three weeks ago and had the same problem last, last week. Could that be it, or is it just a bad screen problem?

Can you try reverting back to the former BIOS and see what happens? I don't know on ASUS, but MSI says to use former bios versions if updating creates instability.

Oh yeah, forgot that you can't even see the screen. Almost sounds like your HDD failed since you said there was a noise. Must be someone here that can guide you what to do next.

I just sent it to RMA yesterday, don't really know how long it'll take. Thanks for the input anyway.
