I have a Toshiba satellite l455 and it is not booting at all. It will power up and I can hear the fan turn on but then the fan turns off and nothing happens. The power light will stay on though. I was going through forums and I tried to boot it using an external monitor and wasn't seeing anything so assumed it wasn't the monitor.

I then tried to remove all components (RAM, cd drive, harddrive) and still not seeing anything at all. What I read in forums is I had a bad motherboard. So I replaced the motherboard and still not booting. Before the power led was staying on but nothing was happening, now the power light will only stay on for like 10 seconds and then it just turns off. Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated!

Have you tried using a different charger cord? Also have you tried pulling the battery and plugging in the charger cord only to see if it will turn on that way.

If the cord is damaged it may well not turn on/stay on if there is a low battery in, as a cord can sometimes still power a device, but not charge the battery at the same time. It happens a lot.

Also, if the battery has a problem this can also cause it not to run while the battery is in, charger cord attached or not.

Unfortunately I don't have another charger chord I can try. When I hook in the charger though the charging light comes on, so I would imagine the charger is fine. I have tried to power it on without the battery in so I am doubtful that is the issue. I am not willing to buy another battery at this time. I did test the harddrive in another laptop and it worked fine so the harddrive isn't the issue.

Maybe I should mention that this laptop was working just fine until I had a party at my house and there were a bunch of kids in my basement where the laptop was located. I am positive one of them did something to it but no one will tell me as they are afraid they will get in trouble. Might have just been a coincidence that it stopped working at the time.

So I am having the exact same problem but with no kids or anything. I try everything! When the cord and battery stay plugged in the lights will flash once every 5 sec until I unplug the cord. Could the processor be bad?

Well I bought a new extended battery (Batteries+ 11.1v 6600 mAh, I downgraded I know) The third battery from original (the first OEM died, I buy new after market 10.8v 8800 mAh (from China I think its still good)) anyway plugged the battery up and charged but I did not try to use the laptop while it was charging. I waited until the solid orange light went to solid white indication a full charge.

I bought a new charger this one is a lot bigger then the old aftermarket couple of replacements ago ( about 3 chargers I went thru (cord sever issues)) I had before my original died. It's OEM replacement charger for my a505-s6020 Toshiba laptop.

Output: 19v 6.3a

I try to boot the laptop but only get one white flash of all the lights on battery no cord, on the cord, When I try to boot bat. in or not all the white lights flash (not flashing before I boot, Just battery solid white light on indicating connection and fully charged) once every 5 sec. or so until I disconnect the power cord.

Nothing on the screen at all in both cases.

Again I did take the battery out and hold power 40+ sec , ram out , ect. Not working.

In the first post Bill indicated that he had replaced the motherboard but did you replace the processor as-well?

Could this be a bad processor?
In my case for the a505-s6020, I looked all over net, some said on-board some said socket. Is the processor on-board or in a socket? Guess I'd have to open my laptop to see this. I know its over warranty.
How do I trouble shoot the processor? If its on socket, can I upgrade the i5 to i7?

I did upgrade the ram to 8gb few months back. But I don't think that's the issue here because its doing the flash thing/no life on screen with no components installed.
