Hi all, I have some problem with brand new laptop HP 250 G5, it doesn't recognize SSD I've installed into ODD slot. I can see it in BIOS, but when I boot into Windows it's not in Disk Management or Diskpart. It usually also has hard time booting if that SSD is in there.

That happens with Intel 535 SSD, but with Samsung EVO 840 I can boot every time, it recognizes it in Device Management and Diskpart but it's unusable and it shows 0.0 MB size.

I've updated to latest BIOS, tried Legacy support, etc etc.. I wanna know if it's possible that it just doesn't support something other than ODD in that slot?

Here are some screenshots from BIOS:

That's really unfortunate. 🙁
Perhaps you could get in touch with the SSD or the laptop manufacturers' customer support to see if the guys there can find an explanation about the current situation. It would be weird if it turns out to be some sort of incompatibility issue.

Please let me know what you find out.
Hey Lendro.

The OD has the same connections and interface just as any other SATA drive. The SSD/HDD caddy is just the "middle man" so that you have a slot where you can connect an HDD/SSD so the laptop should not have an issue with an SSD or an HDD connected this way. Have you tried connecting those SSDs to a different computer or at least to the main slot of the laptop, to see if those issues still persist. It really sounds like there might be a problem with the SSD/HDD caddy. You should also try updating those SSDs firmware if there are available firmware updates for those models. Check if there's a specific driver needed for the SSD/HDD caddy.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

Hi Boogieman,

I've updated Samsung SSDs firmware, and it didn't help.. It would probably be the same for Intel because Samsung should work anyway. I only tried connecting them with SATA to USB converter and they both worked, but unfortunately I cannot test it in another laptop or PC because I don't have any that supports it (I have only ultrabook which has one main SSD and no ODD). I suspect it could be caddy too, I'll test it and let you know what I find out.

Thanks for reply!

Hey, sorry for late reply, I've replaced caddy but it didn't change anything.. It doesn't need any driver for it. I guess it just doesn't work for that laptop / motherboard.
