Hey guys,

So my laptop stopped working. Its the Dell Inspiron 7420 Plus.

At first the only time the power light turned on was when I woudl press the power button. It stayed on as long as I kept pressing the button. Afterwards I tried taking the battery out, ad running it from the charger only, then I took the battery out and pressed power button for 30 secs. The result is the keyboard backlight and power light is consistenly on now, but no other changes.

Any help is much appreciated.

if you have a single stick of ram in the slot of the laptop, remove it after disconnecting from the wall and the internal battery, then press and hold down the power button for 30secs to drain any residual power. Then reconnect the laptop to the wall outlet(courtesy of the power brick) and see if you're able to get POST and a screen. If that works, power down and disconnect, you should be able to hook the battery up and then try powering up using only the battery.

While the stick of ram is out, you can use an eraser to clean the gold contacts on the stick of ram, but be gentle not to knock off any SMD's
