Laptop only detects 40 gb available from 500 gb harddrive

I have a dell latitude E5440 laptop with windows 7 pro. Under computer management my C: drive has over 400 gb allocated to it, but in 'My computer' it only shows that I have about 40 gb available. What could be the reason for this?

Got it to work! Used gpartion from hirens and selected the drive and used grow on it. It found a bunch of 'unused space' and fixed the partition right up.
