Laptop Only Posts if a usb device is plugged in.

Hi Guys, i have a laptop (asus x54c) which is baffling me, it only seems to post(get past the asus logo) if a usb device is plugged into the usb 3.0 slot (any usb device at all) I flashed the bios to the new version, i have reinstalled windows and updated it, everything works fine on the laptop i can even remove the usb device once it starts loading up, any idea what is going on here? possible hardware issue? I bought it dirt cheap locally because the guy could turn it on and is in practically new condition, any advice would be great, thankyou.

Did you factory reset the bios or just flash it?

Hi, i Have just flashed it at the moment and i have set to defaults, but that is it, would it be wise to remove the bios battery and reseat it? (I'm comfortable with taking it apart) thats how you reset it right? thankyou.
