You have to remember that a desktop will always be faster, dollar for dollar, than a laptop. It's simply because you are trading raw power for easy portability. My cousin recently had to make this decision and he went for portability. Got himself a really nice laptop for $750(after taxes).

If portability is not a factor for you, then a laptop shouldn't even be really considered.
 


The question that should be asked is "what for do you need a computer ?". For all uses but gaming, laptop is better.
You can upgrade ram and storage on laptops. In some cases you can upgrade GPUs.

If you are going to game (some heavy games that do need power), your rig is not going to pull it on high settings in many games.

That config below is way more powerful and will serve you for at least few years of serious 1080p gaming without the need to upgrade anything:
