I usually figure this out by myself but it's such an odd Google search that I can't find what I'm looking for.

I have an Asus ROG GL504M laptop connected to a Dell D3218HN monitor through HDMI.

As soon as I turn off the laptop monitor, either by closing the lid of disabling it through settings, performance takes a large hit and video stutters every second. I can be watching a youtube video, or playing a game, or just moving my cursor across the desktop. The video will freeze for a brief moment every second or two.

I updated both Windows10 and my graphic drivers, but it didn't resolve the issue. I wouldn't mind so much except that for graphic intense games, running two monitors drains the performance.

Thanks,
