laptop power mystery

Gateway laptop remains plugged in. Lately computer randomly switches to battery, then back to DC . Continues to do this every few minutes.

Solution
Take out the battery. Now run purely on DC. If the laptop shuts off, then you have either a bad AC/DC power adapter, or a bad VRM in the laptop (which means big trouble if it's out of warranty)

If all is well, then perhaps your battery is going bad. How old is this unit?
