Mixed modules are never guaranteed to work together as RAM is only gauranteed in the form sold (I.e. from the same pack). Whether they are same make / model / timings is irrelevant. Because the manufacturing process can change frequently. Not saying it never works, but it's a 50/50 bet.
If you have to mix modules, then going for the same make and model is preferable just to minimise differences between the modules and therefore improve likelihood of compatibility. But even if they are the same make and model there is still no guarantee they will work nicely with each other. Just a word of caution.
