Hi, I recently upgraded my laptop's (Acer Aspire 5532) RAM from 3gb to 4gb. I replaced the 1gb RAM in one slot with a 2gb module.
Now my laptop does not boot, it doesn't even turn on, the lights come on, it whizzes and then goes off completely.
The RAM module I replaced was a Samsung 1gb 2Rx8 PC2 5300S 555 12 A3. I replaced it with a Hynix 2gb 2Rx8 PC2 6400S 666 12, which is identical to the other RAM slot module except the speed, which is obviously faster.
I chose a faster RAM because I thought if I ever buy a new laptop which can utilise the speed I could reuse this. In hindsight this was stupid as a new laptop would use DDR3 RAM.
Anyway, I was under the impression the RAM would work, and it would just be clocked down to 5333Mhz.
I don't know what the problem is, any help would be appreciated. Thank you!!

Hello,
I'm attempting to do the same thing you did Re: ram upgrade--pulled both sticks out and want to buy a match for the Hynix 2gb 2Rx8 PC2 6400S 666 12 to replace the 1gb samsung. Reading your post has made me think twice, though. Did you find another solution? Just wondering.

This is exactly what I am contemplating for my HP Pavilion dv9700 CTO laptop. It has 3gb now, with one being the Hynix 2gb 2Rx8 PC2 6400S 666 12 and I have found the same stick for about $20 online. Before I buy it can someone post their results of such an upgrade?
